I focus on meaning and the mechanisms by which it is constructed. My educational background is in rhetoric and composition. In school I was fascinated with Gorgias of Leontini and Mikhail Bakhtin. Where Aristotle defined “rhetoric” as ‘the art of finding all available means of persuasion,’ I tend to think of rhetoric as how ideas are shaped, packaged, and presented. To put it another way, rhetoric is what makes the things we say mean something to others.
My goal is to write something for the blog weekly, though I might be lax about that during the summer months. I am interested in labor, New History, literary criticism, dialectics, and materialism. I spent several years divorced from writing, and now that I am coming back to it I find that I am a different kind of writer than I once was.
I hope, if I can accomplish anything here, to communicate something sincere and meaningful.
